Research Opportunities
We consider the lab members as our “scientific family”. We give great value to the collaborative and collegial environment of our lab, as a means to reaching collective and individual achievements. We seek scientists who excel in their research expertise, are enthusiastic about science and are committed to tackle fundamental problems. Furthermore, we seek investigators who are gifted with a generous spirit, who enjoy discussing their research projects, sharing ideas, reagents and expertise, and mentoring younger scientists. The combination of these characteristics is a determining factor when accepting people into the lab.
The laboratory is focused on mitochondrial research, but we welcome applications from scientists with different research backgrounds that can contribute and enhance the scope of our mitochondrial projects.
Postdoctoral Trainees
The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has long been an extraordinary place to do cutting-edge biomedical research. Be sure to check the University of Miami Postdoctoral Association.
Open positions will be posted at the University Careers web page and also here. Independently, we are always open to consider applications from promising researchers interested in any aspect of mitochondrial research. If you would like to apply, please arrange for a cover letter, your CV, and three letters of reference (email is preferred) to be sent directly to Dr. Antoni Barrientos at abarrientos@med.miami.edu or to Dr. Flavia Fontanesi at ffontanesi@med.miami.edu
Graduate Students
The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (UMMSM) offers a wide variety of research opportunities in the biological sciences encompassing multiple different disciplines and departments. The graduate faculty at UMMSM created the Program in Biomedical Sciences (PIBS) in order to give students access to the broadest possible range of research and to encourage interactions among faculty and students in different disciplines. In the first year all students take a common curriculum to build a solid foundation in biomedical science. The first year is also focused on three laboratory rotations and choosing a program and a thesis mentor.
Graduate students join our lab via one of the following graduate programs:
